It is with great sadness that we share the news that Pudgy passed away at home on March 7, 2016 at 1:55 p.m. He was in the company of his wife Joanne and sister Shelley. He had been in hospice care, and his health had declined dramatically during the final days of his life. His family mourns his departure but is relieved that he is finally at peace.
Pudgy led a good, full life and had few regrets. He fought a courageous battle with cancer and was constantly surrounded by relatives and friends since his diagnosis last summer. His attitude and spirit were nothing less than inspirational.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 26 at 1 PM at Sunset View Cemetery, 101 Colusa Avenue, El Cerrito, CA 94530. Immediately following the service there will be a reception at 3 PM King Valley Chinese Restaurant, 795 Fernandez Ave, Pinole, CA 94564. Pudgy especially would want his friends to celebrate his life over a good meal.
In lieu of flowers, Pudgy's family requests that contributions be made to one of the following organizations:
Kapalakiko Hawaiian Band, San Francisco; Asian Americans Advancing Justice--LA (where there is a scholarship in Delbert Wong's name); LA Chinatown Library (where there is a scholarship in Dolores Wong's name); or Bernie Sanders for President
Thank you for your calls, messages, cards, and many expressions of support. Your kindness provided great comfort to Pudgy and Joanne during this difficult time.
